Why don’t students speak their native language in English City?

An unexpected benefit of language teaching in virtual worlds.

In English City students only ever speak in English they never user their native language, even when talking to people who speak the same language as them. Why?

  1. Because everyone is an avatar you can’t tell where the other students are from. By the time you have found out you are in the habit of speaking English.
  2. All time Spent in English City is considered time for learning, there is no divide between lesson time and break time.
  3. People become their characters,  who is an English speaking person in an English City so they always speak English.
  4. The community is so diverse that you won’t be alone with speakers of your own language for very long.
